From 1 credit per round. The way it should be.
hCaptcha decides how many rounds to throw at a request: sometimes 1, sometimes 3. We bill per round, not a flat tax. Other services charge a flat 10 credits whether the challenge was easy or hard. The difference adds up.

Frequently asked.
What exactly is a 'credit'? +
1 credit per hCaptcha challenge round is our baseline rate. hCaptcha decides how many rounds to issue before it mints a token: an easy solve might be 1 round, a harder one with image challenges 2 or 3. The full policy is in our Terms of Service.
Can the price per solve change? +
The baseline is 1 credit per round, but we reserve the right to adjust the credits charged for a solve to reflect the current difficulty of hCaptcha’s challenges and our cost of solving them. Any change only affects solves you make after it takes effect, never credits you already hold. See our Terms of Service for the full policy.
Why not just charge per captcha? +
Because captchas aren't uniform. A flat per-captcha price means you overpay for easy ones to subsidise the hard ones. Per-round billing is honest: customers with good residential proxies get fewer rounds and pay less. Incentives are aligned by design.
Do credits expire? +
No. Buy a pack, use it whenever: next week, next month, next year. No clock, no expiry, no "use it or lose it." The credits you bought are yours until you spend them.
Is there a daily or monthly cap? +
No daily caps. The only ceiling is your concurrency limit (5 / 25 / 100 depending on plan). Inside that, burst as hard as you need.
What happens if a solve fails? +
If no token comes back, it costs you nothing. Credits are deducted only when a solve mints one, so a model that can’t crack the puzzle, a worker timeout, an expiry or a cancellation leaves your balance untouched — there is no refund step because there was no charge.
Do I pay for retries? +
Yes — billing is per answered round, and a re-challenge is another answered round. There is no correctness discount hiding in the meter: if our model gets a round wrong and hCaptcha comes back with another, that round is billed like any other. What protects you is the other end: a solve that never mints a token costs zero, however many rounds it burned.
Can I bring my own proxy? +
Yes, and you should. Customer-supplied residential proxies see noticeably fewer rounds per solve than shared pools. Send a "proxy" field in the POST /v1/solves body — either a full URL string (http://user:pass@host:port) or an object with host, port, scheme, username and password. Bringing your own makes your bill smaller. If you don’t supply a proxy, we route the solve through our own fallback proxy and bill per round up to a fixed maximum per solve — never more than that maximum, and less when a solve takes fewer rounds.
How do I pay? +
Card or crypto, one-time per pack. No subscription, no auto-renewal: when your balance runs low, you top up again. Invoice / wire for accounts over $500/month, talk to us.
