Open-source captcha solvers on GitHub, and hCaptcha.

What the open-source captcha solvers on GitHub say they solve, from their own READMEs and packages: which ones list hCaptcha, which are only clients for a paid service, and which are no longer maintained. Read on 5 November 2026.

Three kinds of project

A GitHub search for “captcha solver” mixes three different things, and it helps to know which one you are looking at:

  • Solvers that run on your side. The code works the challenge itself, with a model it ships, a model you host, or an AI provider you pay with your own key.
  • Open-source clients for a paid service. The code is open, but it sends the captcha to a solving service and returns that service’s answer. You need an API key, and the service bills you.
  • Browser automation tools that mention captchas. They change how an automated browser looks, and some click a checkbox. They are not solvers for image challenges.

The tables below take each kind in turn. Every quote is the project’s own claim; we have not tested whether any of them solves what it lists.

Most of them target reCAPTCHA, Turnstile or text and image captchas. The ones that list hCaptcha are worth a closer look.

hcaptcha-challenger

The most recently updated of the hCaptcha-only projects we found. It works the challenge inside a Playwright browser your Python code drives, using Google’s Gemini models, and needs your own Gemini API key. We installed v0.19.0 from PyPI into a clean Python 3.13 environment. The import failed with No module named 'yaml' until we added pip install pyyaml; after that, creating its config without a key stopped with “GEMINI_API_KEY is required but not provided.” Our hcaptcha-challenger page covers the setup, the open issues and the release history.

OhMyCaptcha

A server you run that answers a YesCaptcha-style createTask / getTaskResult API, with an HCaptchaTaskProxyless task type. It drives Playwright and Chromium and needs a model: one you serve yourself, or an OpenAI-compatible cloud endpoint and its key. It has no tagged releases; the last commit is from March 2026.

hektCaptcha and hcaptcha-solver

Two older hCaptcha-only projects that are no longer kept up. The hektCaptcha extension’s README opens with “STATUS: Archived. Update is stopped until further notice, please use other service.” The npm package hcaptcha-solver was last published in June 2020, and its repository has had no commit since December 2022.

These are open source in the sense that you can read the client. What the client can solve is up to the service behind it:

  • 2captcha-python 2.1.2 still has an hcaptcha() method; we found it in the installed package. Its README lists about forty captcha types, and hCaptcha is not among them. Whether 2Captcha accepts an hCaptcha task is a question for its service, not the client; our 2Captcha comparison covers what its API docs list.
  • nopecha 2.0.1 has solve_hcaptcha(), but NopeCHA wrote on October 2, 2026 that “the hCaptcha API endpoint has been discontinued and support will be removed in a future extension release” (source). The extension’s README says it is “Free to use for up to 100 requests per day”.
  • unicaps has had no release since 1.3.0 in February 2024. In our run it failed to import on Python 3.13 with No module named 'imghdr', a module Python 3.13 removed; on Python 3.12 it imported, and its captcha types include HCAPTCHA.
  • captcha_solver says of itself: “THIS PROJECT IS DEPRECATED AND IS IN MAINTAIN-ONLY MODE.”

Browser tools that mention captchas

Some popular automation projects mention captchas in their description. SeleniumBase’s README says sb.solve_captcha() “handles CAPTCHAs that aren’t bypassed automatically”; the SeleniumBase guide covers what it does with hCaptcha. The self-hosted scraping engine trawl lists hCaptcha among its built-in captcha paths, and its README adds that “built-in hCaptcha support does not include image grids.”

Patched browsers and drivers, such as nodriver, Camoufox and Patchright, can change how often a site shows a challenge. They do not return an hCaptcha token, so a form that asks for one still needs it solved.

What to check before you pick one

  • Does it list your captcha? Most projects here do not list hCaptcha.
  • Is it maintained? Look at the last release and the open issues, not the star count. Two of the hCaptcha projects above have had no release since 2023 or earlier.
  • What does it need? A GPU, a model you host, an AI provider key or a paid solving account each cost something, even when the code is free.
  • What does it return? Some work the challenge inside a browser you run; others hand back a token for your own request.
  • Can you use the licence? GPL-3.0 and AGPL-3.0 are copyleft, MIT and Apache-2.0 are permissive, and some projects write their own terms that limit what you may use the code for.

Where NoneCap fits

NoneCap is a captcha solver service that focuses on hCaptcha, regular, invisible and enterprise. The solving service is not open source, but its clients are: the Python and TypeScript SDKs are MIT-licensed on GitHub. You send the sitekey and the page url, and get back a P1_ token to put in the form’s h-captcha-response field. There is no model to host and no AI provider key to manage.

Shell · pip
pip install nonecap
Python · get an hCaptcha token
import os

from nonecap import NoneCap

nc = NoneCap(api_key=os.environ["NONECAP_KEY"])

solve = nc.solve(
    type="hcaptcha",
    sitekey="10000000-ffff-ffff-ffff-000000000001",
    url="https://your-site.example/signup",
)
print(solve.token)

nc.solve() waits for the result, so there is no polling loop. The sitekey above is hCaptcha’s public test key; use the one from your page. Failed, cancelled and expired solves are never charged. The Python guide shows how to submit the token in a form post and links the Selenium and Playwright guides, and every field is in the API reference.

If you only need hCaptcha solved while you browse, the Chrome extension gives you 100 free solves a day without an account.

Frequently asked

Is there a free, open-source hCaptcha solver?
A few projects on GitHub list hCaptcha. The most recently updated of the hCaptcha-only projects is hcaptcha-challenger, a GPL-3.0 Python library; the code is free, and it needs a Google Gemini API key, which Google bills on your own account. OhMyCaptcha is a server you host that lists hCaptcha and needs a model of your own, local or cloud. Two older hCaptcha-only projects, hektCaptcha and the npm package hcaptcha-solver, are no longer kept up: their last releases are from 2023 and 2020. We have not measured whether any of them solves hCaptcha today.
Which open-source captcha solvers work on reCAPTCHA?
Buster (a browser extension that answers the reCAPTCHA audio challenge) and PyPasser (a Python library for reCAPTCHA v2 and v3, GeeTest, Turnstile and others) both list reCAPTCHA in their READMEs, and so does the Playwright plugin playwright-captcha. None of the three lists hCaptcha as supported; playwright-captcha has it on its to-do list.
Is NoneCap open source?
NoneCap is a captcha solver service that focuses on hCaptcha. Its Python and TypeScript clients are open source under the MIT licence, at github.com/nonecap/nonecap-py and github.com/nonecap/nonecap-js. The solving runs on NoneCap’s service and is billed on your account. The Chrome extension’s release builds are published on GitHub, and it has 100 free solves a day with no account.
Is an open-source client the same as an open-source solver?
No. A client such as 2captcha-python, nopecha or unicaps is open-source code that sends the captcha to a paid service and waits for the answer. You can read and change the client, but the solving happens on the service, needs an API key and is billed there.
Does NopeCHA still solve hCaptcha?
No. On October 2, 2026 a NopeCHA collaborator wrote on their GitHub: “This is working as intended, the hCaptcha API endpoint has been discontinued and support will be removed in a future extension release.” (source). The solve_hcaptcha() method is still in the nopecha Python package. Switching from NopeCHA maps each field to NoneCap.
Is it allowed to use a captcha solver on a site?
That depends on the site and on what you do there. Several of these projects say so in their own disclaimers; OhMyCaptcha’s, for example, says it is “intended for legitimate research, security testing, and educational purposes only”. Automate where you are allowed to: your own sites, your tests, and services whose terms permit it. NoneCap’s terms rule out fraud, credential stuffing, spam and unauthorised access. This is not legal advice.
